Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress that works in the fields of film, television and theatre. The most famous of her roles is Teri Joe, a fiery lawyer on her role on the Showtime program Soul Food. Following her marriage, she is also known by the name Nikki Kodjoe. Growing up within Baltimore, Maryland, she was always fascinated by acting. In the Maryland high school competition at the beginning of her schooling, she won the prize for best actress. Following her time in the theater and with 'The Washington Ballet Company' she graduated with a certificate in acting from New York University. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love, her debut performance in a film of major importance, earned her a lot of respect. Then came movies like "Boogie Nights Spark" and Blue Streak. She was praised for her performance on Soul Food. She also appeared in TV programs like Second Time Around' and Empire. Earlier in the career, she was in numerous stage productions. Parker, who takes active interest in politics is married to actor-model Boris Kodjoe. The couple have two daughters.

Born in Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria up to 7 years old, Contractor was a seasoned traveler who enjoyed the world and an array of cultures at a very young age. Her education was at a boarding-school in London between 7 and 9. Then, the family moved from London to Toronto, Canada. Contractor studied classical ballet in Toronto. She was also a star academically. The Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public school for high schools that is specialized in arts) she studied dance and theatre. When she was 16 after a decade of years of dancing, Contractor decided to pursue acting seriously. Upon graduating from high school she accepted a full award to Toronto's University of Toronto, where she pursued a masters in the field of theatre, and a double major in sociology and psychology. After a single semester at the University, Contractor went to an open audition for the play Pericles at the prestigious and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the role of lead. The show she played in 92 performances were praised by Canadian reviewers. She was invited to join Stratford's conservatory. It is a place which allows just four men and eight women are able to take the 20-week crash course of classical theater. Contractor's place in the following play season was secured and she won the role in the play as Hermia.
