
Jennifer always wanted to become a multi-tasking celeb. As a child she played a myriad of genres of music, but she particularly enjoyed Afro-Caribbean styles like salsa merengue and bachata, and mainstream music such as pop, hip-hop and R&B. She was a lover of music, but was equally fascinated by the movie industry. West Side Story, a musical performed by Rita Moreno (1961), was her main source of inspiration. At 5, Jennifer began taking singing and dancing lessons. Jennifer was also entertainer as well as a Catholic schoolgirl, attended eight years of Holy Family Catholic elementary school located in The Bronx. After a four-year stay at the school, she was able to graduate from Preston High School, an all-girls preparatory school. Jennifer was a star athlete throughout her school years and played the track and field, tennis and volleyball. The Castle Hill neighbourhood was her place of residence for the bulk of her adult life. Jennifer moved out of her home with her parents when she was 18 , to leave. At the time, Lopez worked at a law firm and took dancing positions at night.
